In 2018, the Chinese company Vivo introduced a concept phone that had no equivalent to a bezel, while there was no notch for the selfie camera, the device was named Apex.

Last year, the company introduced an even better Model View Apex 2019 with no buttons and port. And now the new device from this Concept Phone series has been introduced Apex 2020, the company’s first phone with an under-display selfie camera screen.

The phone was supposed to be introduced during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, but the event was canceled due to the Coronavirus and is now announced through a press release.

Vivo Apex 2020 – A New Generation of Smartphones

The Concept Phone has a 6.45-inch Ultra Crowd display that is bent to 120 degrees angle on both sides and is almost incompatible with the bezel.

Like last year’s phone, this time Apex 2020 has no port and physical buttons have been replaced by virtual pressure sensing buttons. The company claims to have a 16-megapixel selfie camera inside the phone’s screen called the under-screen camera and eliminates the need for a notch or popup camera.

This is similar to the technology that Oppo introduced last year. But Oppo has not introduced a phone equipped with camera technology that people can buy while Vivo’s Aplix phones are not ready for normal production. But to some extent, they are possible to use.

The back of this phone has a 48-megapixel main camera and a 16-megapixel Perry Scope camera that can zoom 5 to 7.5x optical. The iPhone 11 Pro Max has 2x optical zoom, 4x optical zoom in Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, 5x zoom in Huawei P30 Pro.

The company says the main camera has a structure that enhances performance on OIS systems by up to 200%, resulting in better video and image quality at night.

Since it has no port, 60W wireless charging support is provided for charging which according to the company can charge 2000 mAh battery in 20 minutes. However, the company did not disclose the battery volume on this phone.

This phone has Snapdragon 865 processor, X55 modem and 5G support, Android 10 operating system, 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage. Other features include Watts Tracking AutoFocus, View Screen Sound Casting technology that transforms the display into a speaker.

But there is a strong possibility that like the previous 2 Apex phones, it will never be available to the general consumer as the company prepares such devices for future technology.

Just like Apex 2018, the pop-up selfie camera was introduced for the first time and reached the masses a few months later via Vivo’s flagship Nexus S.

Huawei has suffered a loss from Google services such as the Play Store as a result of US sanctions, and now it looks like the Chinese company is about to take the most important step in response.

Reuters reported recently that major smartphone makers like Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo are working together on a platform that works alike Google Play Store.

These companies are under the aspect of the Global Developer Service Alliance (GDSA), and the move appears to be an attempt to challenge the Google Play Store’s international monopoly.

Google Play Store is banned in China and Android users download apps from various app stores, most of which handle different companies like Huawei and Oppo,

But outside of China, Google Play Store is dominated, allowing developers to upload their software, on different platform.

Third-party app stores face difficulties as a result of this monopoly, and are now being challenged by the GDSA platform.

The GDSA’s Prototype website states that its services are planned to be introduced in 9 countries and territories including India, Indonesia, Russia and Malaysia.

According to the report, these Chinese companies are very strong in different regions, such as Xiaomi in India or Huawei Europe, and during the last quarter of last year, these companies sold 40% of smartphones worldwide.

This new platform will make it easier for developers to upload their apps to all stores simultaneously.

Google Play Store’s global dominance is an even bigger problem for Huawei, which lost Google apps and services, including a Play Store license, due to US sanctions last year.

Due to this issue, Huawei decided not to push its flagship phone Mate 30 for sale globally, while also announcing it to work on its operating system Harmony OS and as an alternative to Google services. Huawei invested one billion dollars to establish mobile services.

Read More: The UK ready to give Huawei a role in 5G network

The Play Store is very important in Google’s revenue sources, which earned $ 8.8 billion worldwide last year.

The Chinese company plans to introduce a new platform in March, but could also be tainted by the spread of the Corona virus in China.
