TikTok, a famous video-sharing app is popular among many youngsters around the world. Although its one of the most popular app in the world, some security flaws need to be addressed.

It has been revealed that it has a new security flaw that allowed hackers to gain user’s personalized content, and steal information based on certain constraints. Although the company says there’s no evidence that this situation ever happened, the research by Cybersecurity firm Check Point says something else.

The research claims that the attackers use personal data of users, and send links via SMS. The SMS officially appeared from the TikTok, so users often click on it. This link gains access to user information, that later impact their videos. Many users also claim that their private videos got listed as public, and some of their famous videos were automatically deleted.

The research also found a separate glitch that stole personal email address including payment-related information. Check Point informed about this flaw to tiktok officials on November 20, and the company fixed this security flaw on December 15. This is not the first time tech companies like this sold personal information to third parties.

In December 2019, the US Navy banned the use of tiktok on government-issued devices, and said its a matter of cybersecurity threat. In response, the security engineer of tiktok Luke Deshotels said that the company is “Committed to protecting user data“.

“Social media applications are highly targeted for vulnerabilities as they provide a good source for private data and offer a good attack surface gate,” he said in a statement.
