The lawsuit began with tagging and identifying people by name on Facebook, which is still controversial in many European countries.

Following the advent of the technology on the social media platform, citizens of the US state of Illinois filed a lawsuit on Facebook because it violated some of the privacy laws.

The case has been ongoing since 2015, with the final result now coming out. Illinois citizens say in the petition that only the face can be identified by the police, otherwise, no one else has the right.

The case was reopened in 2018, and the US Supreme Court this month rejected the appeal for a review by Facebook.

The lawsuit also includes a thousand state engineers who were or are still involved in several secret projects.

The US court also asked Facebook the interesting question of explaining the practical benefits of a face recognition option that Facebook could not satisfy the court.

Some states of US police departments use body cameras, but in some US cities, this practice is also illegal because of local laws.

Facebook rolled out a new feature in this regard named “Tag System“, where the app will automatically recognize your face and gives you a notification to tag yourself in the post.

This option allows users to choose themselves. Currently, this feature is only limited to your friend’s list or suggestions.

Facebook has been facing some real allegations previously. The tech giant company is under heavy review for privacy-related matters.

Now Facebook will pay $550 million to resolve the dispute for facial recognition.
